Matriarchy Is Older Than Western Feminism Tote Nalgona Positivity Pride Women of Color Feminist Tote
$25.00
✨THE STORY✨
*Seasonal Item*
Long before Susan B Anthony and the suffragist movement, turtle island was already inhabited by powerful women and two-spirits who were honored and loved in in their societies. Since time immemorial, many Native societies were matriarchal and egalitarian. Feminism was not needed as a theory because women, men, and all the beautiful genders (in between and around) had their respected role. It was not until European invasion that matriarchy was replaced with patriarchy.
The common misconception is that matriarchy means transferring and replicating the same exact power cisgender men have under settler colonialism to women when in actuality matriarchy pushes us to envision a world outside settler colonialism and white supremacy. Nalgona Positivity Pride (NPP) is an in-community eating disorders and body-positive organization dedicated in creating visibility and resources for Black, Indigenous, communities of color (BICC.) Since 2016, NPP has been raising awareness around the specific needs of BICC through digital media, education, grassroots eating disorders treatment models, and art. Rooted in Xicana indigenous feminism and DIY punx praxis, NPP emerged out of a great need not only to shed light on the experiences and barriers that exist in BICC affected by body-image and troubled eating but to create opportunities of healing by and for BICC.
