$13.00
❤ DETAILS:

This poster is ideal for community spaces, home, and everywhere else. The Mayahuel poster/print is in green.

Mayahuel, notable pre-Columbian icon, considered the goddess of maguey. Her name from the Nahuatl words "metl" meaning maguey and "yohualli" meaning "round" or "encircling", which could translate to "one who surrounds the maguey. (Guzman). The maguey plant had limitless uses for the pre-contact people of Mesoamerica and could continue to reproduce and support an entire community. "Maguey could provide food, unfermented drinks, honey-like syrup, oculi (pulque), medicines, textiles, artisan tools, weapons, implements for ritual use, building supplies, paper, clothing, rope, and more." It is not harmed by storms and it withstands drought (Lopez).

Mayahuel was associated with "the realms of arts and entertainment, sustenance, and fertility" (Guzman). Mayahuel takes multiple forms as a plant and goddess and has a diverse impact. Mayahuel has a rich and layered meaning including the mother figure for the "gods." Mayahuel heals, eases the pains associated with giving birth, has the ability to poison, defeat and destroy, and she serves as a great nurturer. (Lopez)
